It’s almost noon in Sri Lanka. The WMO Food Bank tuk tuk carrying its precious cargo races to reach its destination of Mattakkuliya, a suburb of Colombo.

Our friend and dedicated volunteer disembarks from the vehicle carrying a brightly coloured polythene sack filled to the rafters with food packs. He positions a stool behind the tuk tuk, puts on his trusted sunglasses and begins his daily ritual of distributing meals under the blazing noon sun.

People of all ages, religion, caste and creed gather around him for their afternoon meal. Many carry multiple packs home to feed their families. Nobody is returned empty handed. As one sack of food pack is emptied, another is removed from the tuk tuk till it meets the same fate.

Our friend will be back again tomorrow to deliver more food packs in his faithful ride. As the residents of Colombo, now await in eager anticipation for the all too familiar WMO Food Bank tuk tuks and its precious cargo at the punctual stroke of lunch.
