The WMO Food Bank project has been on the frontlines of the humanitarian crisis in KwaZulu-Natal, delivering food and relief aid across the length and breadth of the coast

The East Coast of South Africa has been battered by Covid-19, devastating rains and violent riots in recent months, leading to widespread apathy, poverty and misery.

Mr. Cassim Malani has become the face of the initiative. While no praise is high enough for our official spokesperson who delivers the precious cargo in his trusted food van, displaying the WMO Food Bank logo, alongside Jama’atun Nisaa and Natal Memon Jamaat ; it is time to acknowledge the men and women behind the scenes.

Our distinguished WMO Trustee Mr. Yousuf Kamdar has been one of the biggest donors towards the cause and although the Kamdar group logo finds no pride of place on the food van, Yousuf Kamdar has found a place in the hearts of thousands of beneficiaries of the food program.

Mr. Mahomed Gany, President of Natal Memon Jamaat (NMJ) has led from the front and the project is flourishing under his able leadership.

Mr. Feizul Ayob, Regional President of WMO Africa Chapter and Mrs Fazila AK Ismail, Jama’atun Nisaa’s driving force are the joint forces behind the success of the WMO Food Bank project in Africa.

Then there is the exceptional Ashraf Osman who is the strongest pillar of support for Mr. Cassim Malani. Both men have worked tirelessly over the past few months on ground zero to uplift the downtrodden of KwaZulu-Natal.

The common thread that binds these men and women together is their love for Humanity. As the Beatles put it so eloquently – ‘All you need is Love’. And in today’s world, the need remains far greater than ever.
