WMO Far East Chapter donated a new storey and constructed 4 new classrooms

The sight of little girls studying in ramshackle sheds, crammed like tin sardines within the confines of four dilapidated walls, under a broken-down roof is heart wrenching. This was the sorry state of the students of Khairiya Girl’s College in Colombo, Sri Lanka before the World Memon Organisation Far East Chapter donated a new storey and constructed 4 new classrooms to the existing structure.

October 27th 2021 marked the ceremonial opening of the newly constructed second storey of the college building. It was a well-attended affair with the top brass of the Far East Chapter completing the ribbon cutting formalities, along with the faculty and young students of the college.

WMO firmly believes that Education is the bedrock on which communities and nations rise and stand. It is the birth right of every child. Our goal is to provide quality and affordable education to all, especially marginalised children as education is the first step towards reducing poverty and inequality in society.

The expansion of the Khariya Girl’s College is another significant step towards achieving the worthy objective.
