“My mum is reaching the 70 year milestone but her energy has not diminished when it comes to Serving Humanity”

While many her age preferred to stay home and safe during the fatal pandemic, she took to the streets to help her fellow human beings during the most difficult of times. Mumbai was reeling under the frequent onslaught of the Coronavirus but when has a mortal disease ever deterred Raziya Chashmawala from having her way.

Most weekends, I would awake to her rushing out of our house at the stroke of dawn, armed with the WMO banner. Reaching far-flung slums, orphanages and hospitals to deliver food bags, masks, medical aid and other necessities to help the underprivileged survive the pandemic.

So it is no surprise that she is on the forefront of the WMO Food Bank project, feeding children and orphans in the suburbs of Mumbai.

My mother serves as an inspiration to not only us, her children but is a role model for many, around the World. A few leading Indian publications have conferred on her the title – Mother Teresa of the Memon Community.

For me, she will always be mum.
