The WMO Youth Wing Africa hosted a fund raising Padel Tournament in collaboration with Gift of the Givers Foundation to raise money for hunger stricken Eastern Cape’s Soup Kitchens.

Enthusiastic volunteers from the youth wing came together to organise the event, headed diligently by Nazraana Kalla and supported by Youth Wing Head; Sadaf Vahedna.

The event was a huge success with 40 enthusiastic Padel players participating in the tournament and over 150 people in attendance to enjoy the family day event. The weather co-operated and the sun shone kindly upon the do-gooders gathered at Gayle Padel Club in Centurion at what started as a foggy winter morning.

Popular food pop ups sold braai food, tacos and waffles for families attending to watch the players.

Corene Cordelia, Gift of the Givers Eastern Cape co-Ordinator addressed attendees with an update on the tragic situation in the Eastern Cape. Children in the Eastern Cape are infected with HIV and TB. Although they have access to medication they have no access to food. Children regularly die of malnutrition with soup kitchens unable to cope with the demand.

Over R 80 000 was raised at the event.

The Youth Wing will be working closely with Gift of the Givers and getting involved in the projects short and long term outcomes as is consistent with their philosophy.

A special shout out to volunteers Yasmin Gani, Ahmed A Ismail, Fatima Noormohamed, Waseem Bawa, Khashiefa Martin and Mohomed Siddique for their efforts.

May Allah grant all the generous sponsors, donors, volunteers and attendees abundantly for their generosity.
