WMO Europe Chapter in collaboration with Memon Association UK to help the large influx of Afghan migrants entering Europe

by on 5 September 2021

The haunting scenes of people clinging on to aircrafts taking off runways and poignant pictures of toddlers being handed over the walls to soldiers as a sea of humanity surges in Kabul airport to escape the Taliban rule are testament to another migration crisis brewing out of Afghanistan.

WMO has always answered the call of the unfortunate victims of a human tragedy or a natural calamity in any part of the World. The organisation has been on the forefront and has contributed in every possible way to alleviate the pain and misery of those who seek refuge under these tragic circumstances.

Shamim Osman is an exceptional woman. She heads the ladies wing of WMO Europe Chapter and her list of exhaustive humanitarian endeavours include supporting the visually impaired in Africa, delivering blankets to the children of strife torn Syria, collecting funds for a flood ravaged Malawi, setting up a hospital for the needy in India…..the list goes on. So it is no surprise that she is on the frontlines of the refugee support program initiated by WMO Europe Chapter in collaboration with Memon Association UK to help the large influx of Afghan migrants entering Europe.

£ 5000 have been donated to provide instant monetary relief and a collection drive was held at the Memon Center in London wherein more than a 150 bags of clothes, shoes and accessories have been delivered to organisations such as Care4Calais, Harrow Afghan Association and Kingston Council who approached Shamim Osman to assist in the Refugee Crisis.

We are grateful to Mrs. Zeenat Valimohammad, Ladies Wing Chairperson of Memon Association UK and our dedicated team of Yasmin Omar, Fatima Gadit, Sajida Tayub, Obada Khan, Shenaz Valimahomed, Sajida Daud and Shahina for being a part of this worthy cause.

Much more needs to be done and we hope many others will come forward to partake in the program and help our fellow human beings at their most vulnerable time.
