WMO Africa Chapter partnered with MyCup team

by on 16 August 2021

WMO AFRICA CHAPTER partnered with MyCup team continues to reach out to young South African women, donating and educating them on the benefits of silicone menstrual cups.
This project has become one close to the hearts of our members and donors especially our Project Coordinator; Dr Taheera Hassim. Our VP, Mr Feizul Ayob has become passionate about this project, and has constantly made funds available for this project! Dr Taheera Hassim’s dedication is evident as she travels to various regions and visits numerous institutes, with the sole purpose of empowering these girls.
Our recent project took place on Friday, 13 August 2021. Our first stop was at Potchefstroom Secondary School where 120 females students attended the workshop by Dr Taheera Hassim and Mycup Coordinator, Cara discussing Menstruation & Female Reproductive topics. A complete 3-hour session with the assistance of educator, Mrs Hoorne went off smoothly and was a huge success.
Thereafter, we visited a home 45 minutes away from Potchefstroom in Welverdiend, housing 60 young ladies. This home is managed by our partner; the Potch Muslim Women’s Forum – Hajera Sooliman and team who donated hygiene packs, whilst WMO donated the silicone menstrual cups. Taheera addressed the older girls in a session, where she taught them to to use the cup during their menses. The residents were very appreciative of the kind gesture and time spent with them.
This project continues to grow in leaps and bounds and we hope that in the near future, the youth of WMO will become actively involved in this project and help us to expand and reach more potential institutions in South Africa.
