This WMO AGM was an emotional one for me

We lost the matriarch of the Shaikhani family.

Mrs. Rabia Shaikhani, wife of the late Abubakr Shaikhani left for her heavenly abode, just one day before the AGM.

I attended the Janaza in Dubai as did a majority of the visiting international delegates. As her sons Ahmed, Rizwan and Muzammil fought back the tears, my thoughts went out to my good friend Mahmood who was in Karachi, making funeral arrangements for his mother’s burial as they flew out the body so that she could be interred along side her beloved husband.

I shed many a tears for the Shaikhani family that night. I prayed that Allah SWT grant them strength to bear the irreparable loss. I prayed the Almighty grant their mother, the highest place in Jannatul Firdous.

So when my voice choked with emotion, as I paid a tribute to my mum at the AGM, kissed her hand and hugged her tightly in front of a full house, the moment captured an array of emotions. The sorrow I felt for the Shaikhani’s and the solace I received in my mum’s arms.

It made me realize that we are the fortunate ones who still have our mothers by our sides and we must cherish everyday, every hour and every minute we get to spend with them.

No matter your age, you always need your mom.

As I said in the beginning. It’s been emotional.
