Inaugural Memon Premier League hosted by WMO Europe Chapter

It was a glorious summer day in London. The weather Gods were kind to the inaugural Memon Premier League hosted by WMO Europe Chapter.

The Hainault Recreation Ground was flooded with sunlight and the captivating cricketing skills were on ample display. Each boundary was cheered, every dropped catch drew a gasp and each passing hour brought in even greater crowds. The first cricket tournament held on English soil under the WMO banner was a colossal success.

The enthralling matches involved four teams participating from different regions of London, affording the youth ample opportunity to showcase their talent. Mr. Arif Mundiya who heads the Europe Chapter Sports Committee did a commendable job and has promised many more sporting events in the near future to encourage youngsters to step up to the plate for the community.

We applaud the members of the sports committee which include Mr. Imran Panawala (Regional Vice President of Europe Chapter), Mr. Waseem Adil (Regional Secretary General), Mr. Shahzad Iqbal (Regional Treasurer) and Mr. Farhan Farooq (Regional Management Committee member) for organizing a spectacular event and are grateful to the top brass of WMO – Mr. Mahmood Shaikhani (Deputy President WMO), Mr. Bashir Sattar (Secretary General WMO), Sir Iqbal Sacranie (Former Deputy President of WMO) and Mr. Tanveer Merchant for being the driving force behind the tournament.

After many grueling months of being locked indoors due to the rampant pandemic in the UK, the MPL was a welcome change to visit the outdoors. And we are thankful to the ARY network for capturing the tournament in all its glory as everyone came together to celebrate the gentleman’s game on a perfect summer’s day in London.
