Children with Special Needs

On the 1st of June, WMO Africa Chapter visited Twinkle Stars Early Childhood Development (ECD) Centre for children with special needs in Lenasia on the outskirts of Johannesburg.

Dr. Taheera Hassim and her team distributed special mattresses, waterproof sheets and comforters to help the children combat the brutal Gauteng winters.

As the centre doesn’t receive subsidies from the state, the children are burdened with bringing their own books, mattresses, toiletries and even their lunches. Unfortunately most families belong to the marginalized section of society and cannot afford even these basic necessities for their children. WMO Africa Chapter raised funds to provide for the children and ensured that they successfully complete the program which is essential for their physical and psychological well being.
