Professor Abdul Rashid Gatrad OBE, Deputy Lieutenant, esteemed WMO member, renowned pediatrician, a humanitarian of note, passionate environmentalist and inspirational founder of WASUP. That is a long list of laurels for one man but then Professor Gatrad has lived a life less ordinary.

Today, we shall put the spotlight on WASUP which translates into World Against Single Use Plastic. The organisation has been on the forefront as it wages war against plastic waste, in its tireless endeavours to save the Planet. With worthy ambassadors in all corners of the globe, WASUP urges everyone to go green, plants trees, runs cleanliness campaigns and spreads awareness on environmental protection for a sustainable future. The organisation has received plaudits from several global organizations including UNESCO.

Shankar Mahadevan, a very vocal advocate of the worthy environmental cause has delivered a masterpiece in “Humari Zameen Humari Zimedari”, a song aptly meaning “Our World, our Responsibility” A soulful rendition composed by him for WASUP, to Save Mother Earth and has dedicated it to the parents of Professor Gatrad.

Shankar Mahadevan is an exceptional singer and composer who is an integral part of the famous musical trio Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy, names to reckon with in the Indian film industry.
