MPL Bat Auction Funds to Serve The Patients at the National Cancer Institute

The funds raised from the MPL Bat Auction have been put to good use at the National Cancer Institute (NCI), Maharagama, Sri Lanka.

The NCI, Maharagama, which is the premier tertiary referral hospital dedicated to the diagnosis and follow up treatment of cancer patients in Sri Lanka. This institute is under the control of Department of Health and provides all. It is the largest Hospital in Sri Lanka, which offers specialized treatment for all types of cancers. It helps to identify cancers in about 10,000 new patients, and does the follow up treatment for nearly 30,000 patients per year. The daily number of patients on in-ward treatment is on the average of 750.

After consultation with Dr. Kanishka Karunarathna , Director of National Cancer Institute , Maharagama, Sri Lanka it was revealed that there was a dire need for a Proper Drug Storage facility at the Institute. The NCI requested the WMO FC to renovate a neglected part of a building which could serve as a Drugs Store. The WMO committee in liaison the Institute got working on this and set about the task with much enthusiasm.
